James Ferguson

James Ferguson joined the Pfieffer Racing team in 2018 as our Racing and Bloodstock manager. He has been in the industry since the age of 12 and is the son of Andrew and Georgie Ferguson who for the last ten years owned and operated Bell River Thoroughbreds, a successful breeding nursery in country New South Wales. The farm became the source of multiple high class performers where they bred the likes of multiple Group 1 performers Extreme Choice and Ace High followed by Group 3 winner and Group 1 place getter Faraway Town, 3x stakes winner Flippant, stakes winner Bindii Babe and Group 1 placed Denmagic, as well as up and coming stable star I Am Excited. Much of his childhood and school holidays was spent assisting on the farm and gaining further experience working for Arrowfield Stud and Haunui Farm.

James also travelled overseas to work for the Queens Racing Manager in John Warren as well as Highclere Stud. Ferguson later worked for the McKeever family both in Australia and in England where he spent time assisting the team in finding horses for Australia and Hong Kong as well as short listing at all major European sales. He also spent six months working with classic winning trainer Hugo Palmer in Newmarket on the side. In 2017, Ferguson then teamed up with McKeever Bloodstock for a year and a half, which was known as McKeever/Ferguson Bloodstock before operating his own bloodstock agency since 2018.

Whilst operating his own bloodstock agency, James assists Pfieffer Racing as Racing Manager and Bloodstock Advisor.  His day to day jobs include race programming, client communication, media, yearling selection, sourcing tried horses both domestically and internationally such as a European stayer, and up to date market valuations for private sales occurring in the stable.

Sue O’Keeffe

Sue has been a valued member of Pfieffer Racing since 2011 as she operates as the assistant trainer for the Warwick Farm barn. She has plenty of experience in the industry beginning her career almost 30 years ago at the Lord Ben Farm working with pre trainers Tim Martin and Graham Begg. Sue quickly established herself in the industry and it wasn't long before she was the Breeding Manager, as well as becoming a valuable asset to Patinack Farm under Toby Edmonds.

Pfieffer Racing would become her home and with stable stars such as Cradle Me, Tahitian Black, Denmagic and Atmospherical in the ranks she was able to play a pivotal role in their development which led to them having successful careers on the race track. Sue can't help but become attached to the horses she mentors and Cradle Me will always be one of the horses she remembers fondly. The next generation is now here and with such horses as I Am Excited coming into her own there is a lot of buzz around the stable as team strives for ongoing success.
