Team Pfieffer Readies Tricks and Tales

Sydney’s all-conquering Autumn carnival wraps up at Randwick this weekend and Team Pfieffer are hoping spritely bay filly Denmagic can make amends for her last-start effort at headquarters two weeks ago.
Beaten five lengths into ninth in the PJ Bell over 1200m, Denmagic was forced wide on straightening and hampered by the tiring fellow Denman filly Denpurr.
Shuffled back through the field and caught behind weakening horses meant the brilliant turn of foot she showed when resuming at Rosehill fell victim to traffic problems.
“She had horses in front of her going nowhere, (and) they were horses who weren’t real chances in the race” commented trainer David Pfieffer.
“It was a really tightly bunched field, there would’ve only been four lengths covering them on turning and even though she (Denmagic) did get cover when four wide she was checked and lost her momentum” he said.
On paper, the nine sitting on her form sheet could easily cast doubt over her chances in the JHB Carr over 1400m. But as always, Pfieffer has great faith in his magic filly.
“The step up to 1400m is perfect at this stage in her preparation and we’re pleased with her work during the week” said Pfieffer.
Christian Reith reunites with the filly and hopes it will be third time lucky for Denmagic after two troubled runs.
Reith could only shake his head in frustration when jumping off the filly at Rosehill on Slipper Day in the Derby Munro Stakes over 1200m.
Denmagic’s run of poor luck didn’t improve when drawing barrier eleven of thirteen in this weekend’s assignment.
“It’s not the best barrier but if there are no scratchings she comes in to barrier eight which will be much better” said Pfieffer, always looking to the bright side.
Team Pfieffer will also saddle up Fort Myer and Silver Art at Kembla Grange on Saturday, before taking consistent mare Tale Of Dreams to Muswellbrook on Monday.
The 2yo Fort Myer runs in the first event for stable apprentice Travis Wolfgram over 1000m.
Third on debut behind the stakes winning brother to Winx in El Divino, Fort Myer is primed to break his maiden from barrier two, as is the flashy grey Silver Art, partnered by Peter Wells from barrier five in the 1200m maiden.
Weekend Runners
DENMAGIC
Saturday 16 April @ ROYAL RANDWICK
R4. KARI JHB CARR STAKES | 1400m | 54kg | Group 3
She didn’t get the best of luck in her last start run at Randwick over the 1200m but the step up to 1400m looks ideal at this stage in her preparation and she has trained on well. Reunites with Christian Reith and can show that brilliant dash at the end of her races to break through here.
FORT MYER
Saturday 16 April @ KEMBLA GRANGE
R1. KIDS DAY OUT 2YO HANDICAP | 1000m | 56.5kg
Was on the speed early and showed progress with his first start third behind the promising half sibling to Champion Winx, El Divino. He has the benefits of race experience and fitness leading into this and can be competitive with Travis Wolfgram in the saddle from the gun barrier 2.
TALE OF DREAMS
Monday 18 April @ MUSWELLBROOK
R4. XXXX GOLD CL1 + MAIDEN PLATE | 1750m | 57kg
Fifth run this preparation and she is fighting fit following her credible effort at her first try over 2100m. Back to 1750m and we know she puts herself in the right position from the get go, so with Mitchell Bell on board she can be very competitive from gate 3.
