Let The Magic Begin

A golden opportunity has presented itself to the team as Christmas creeps closer, with a gun colt set to take his place in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO on Thursday afternoon.
The colt in question, a stunning bay specimen and mirror image of his dual-hemisphere champion sire Fastnet Rock, is one of twelve runners set to contest the popular 1100m dash which serves as a key lead up to the lucrative Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YO Classic.
A wise man would steer clear of declaring a 2YO's chances in his first start, yet Pfieffer has a quiet air of confidence in Cape Wickham and would not be running the colt if unsure of his potential.
"He's a very well bred, athletic individual who has taken everything in his stride thus far. He keeps getting better and better" commented the trainer.
It is hard to deny the level of competition the young horse must face - headlined by the listed winning and G3 placed Madeenaty, a speed gifted daughter of Exceed and Excel who races for the Hayes partnership.
"It's a strong group of youngsters, as it always is with the rich Magic Millions races.
"It is however a race with half the field having their first start so education is everything, and (Cape Wickham) has an incredible attitude".
The Magic Millions race day at Wyong has proven to be successful for Pfieffer in previous years, with "probably the best horse" he has saddled up in Graceful Anna smashing a track record in winning the 2009 Magic Millions 3YO Stakes.
The win was as momentous as is to be expected when associating with the Magic Millions festivities, as Pfieffer had only been training for just under two years when the chestnut rolled to a decisive win.
"I took my time with Graceful Anna and it was rewarded. It was a huge point in my career, so the day means a lot".
The meeting will also feature the debut of another blue-blooded galloper called Tswalu, and just like Graceful Anna, Pfieffer has had to be as patient as a true horseman when preparing the mare.
A rich chocolate brown daughter of Northern Meteor, the Widden stud powerhouse who was prematurely lost to the industry, Tswalu will have her first start as 4YO in the first event over 1100m.
From the Danzero mare in Penthesilea, Tswalu is from the family of the incomparable stallion Mr Prospector, with an American influence mixed through her internationally regarded pedigree.
The sleek mare will be hard fit after two solid trial performances this preparation, the latest resulting in an easy win at Warwick Farm over 800m, when ridden by Tim Clark who is set to accompany the mare on race day.
"Clark is riding in incredible form of late and has formed a nice partnership with Tswalu, so it's a great match".
Tswalu will further carry the famous colours of Widden Stud, who as major shareholders will be hoping to secure plenty of wins with the mare to create the all important breeding value down the line.
Widden celebrate 150 years of operation in 2017, making the celebrated nursery the longest standing continuously owned thoroughbred stud - thus Tswalu will carry more than a set of well known silks into the New Year.
"It is hard to imagine the Australian racing industry without the influence of Widden, as a producer of champions every year and source of incredible stallions".
A win in the for the Widden fraternity on such a celebrated race day would cap an incredible year for all at Team Pfieffer and provide an illustrious Christmas Present.
