Dawn of The New Generation

Easily one of the highlights of any racing fraternity is the hugely anticipated first start in a horse's career.
As the first 2YOs hit the track to trial as green as the grass they trod on, the team at Pfieffer Racing were busily preparing two fresh prospects for their debuts as ripened 3YO colts; unspoiled by rushed juvenile campaigns that so easily spells the end of a career before it has even begun.
Nevada Mo and I Thought So are a pair of young men on the cusp of their first day at high school - they train together, are boxed next to each other and even spelled together at Paul Blattman's picturesque Whispering Pines property at Oakdale.
Both colts are by Coolmore sires that excelled in their fields to be crowned as champions; and both strike their trainer in physical type and hopefully in racetrack performance.
"They are standout types - as yearlings they ticked every box and now as 3YOs they give me a lot to look forward to" said Pfieffer.
Nevada Mo, by the US sire of the moment in Uncle Mo, and I Thought So, by the memorable So You Think, were purchased by Pfieffer as yearlings at the Inglis and Magic Millions sales respectively in 2015, albeit with different price tags.
"We bought Nevada Mo for $45,000 at the Inglis Classic Sale and I thought it was an absolute bargain, with the sire doing such an impressive job and the mare producing three (winners) from three (starters)".
Nevada Mo will be the first of the pair to get to the races, starting at Kembla Grange on Tuesday in a competitive 1000m provincial 3YO maiden and gets the services of a superb rider in Kerrin McEvoy, easily one of Australia's most successful jockeys.
"He has a great attitude and great barrier speed - he will be able to bounce well from the good gate and put himself into contention from the get go" commented Pfieffer.
Joining Nevada Mo at Kembla is the seasoned campaigner Brilliant Meteor, who has shown a turn of form of late with a drop in distance providing connections with an overdue flourish of improved runs.
"We got him back to the mile after a few starts over the longer trips didn't suit him, and he just plodded home.
"He hit the line much better at Goulburn two starts back then got beaten by a group horse at Warwick Farm. I'm glad we have him back as he does have his fair share of talent".
On Wednesday Pfieffer will accompany I Thought So to Rosehill, saddling the colt in the 1100m 3YO maiden for Jason Collett.
"We drew barrier 12, which I still don't know how I keep getting such poor barriers, but he also has great early speed so hopefully gets a bit of cover" he said.
I Thought So's rich pedigree is an interesting mix of speed and agility - his dam being the speed gifted Fusaichi Pegasus mare Cat's Pyjamas, who excelled up to 1200m with five wins and a listed placing on her resume.
With his sire's immortal conquest of two hemispheres and two Cox Plate victories, it will be interesting to see where I Thought So finds his peak.
"So You Think was just a monster over 2000m, he had a high cruising speed matched with a brilliant sprint. Cat's Pyjamas was a jet, so I Thought So has the best of both worlds" said Pfieffer.
Pfieffer will be hoping the pair can emulate the deeds of the star mare Denmagic, who again proved her worth against "the best mares in work" with an amicable fourth in the G2 Golden Pendant at Rosehill.
Denmagic had her first start in a maiden at Rosehill over 1100m for a fourth but as with all great racehorses, the best was yet to come.
