A Star to Remember

There is one horse that is heavily associated with the success of David Pfieffer Racing and that is CRADLE ME.

The Queenslander was a bargain buy at the 2016 Magic Millions Yearling Sales where Lot 1040 came with a $3k price tag. Pre-Trained and “Ready 2 Race” David saw plenty of potential in this filly and quickly grabbed her knowing he had so much scope to work with.

Cradle Me & Jason Collett were unstoppable late in her career and the young rider from NZ showcased that powerful turn of foot in style. They combined 7 times to win the Listed Razorsharp & Canterbury Classic back to back down the famous straight of Randwick. Group racing beckoned and she headed back to QLD where it all began winning the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes before finishing off her racing days in the G1 Tatts Tiara finishing a very respectable 6th behind Miss Cover Girl.

“Tenacious, Temperamental, Explosive & Gallant” are words that would be used to describe the daughter of Easy Rocking & David had her flying. The consistent mare won 11 races amassing over $600k in a successful career spanning 5 years. It was never about the money for connections and they adored this cheeky mare with a massive heart.

For those who know Sue O'keeffe well they would have seen the connection between the dedicated foreman and Cradle Me. Sue took some time out to reflect on her time with the much loved star of David Pfieffer Racing.

What was her best quality?

“Her best quality would have to be her gutsy attitude and her competitive will to win.

What was her stable name?

“She was known as Cradles but we all called her the Impossible Princess because most of the time she was”.

What was your favourite racing moment?

“Favourite moment was when she won the Dane Ripper. The Group 2 at Eagle Farm was her last win under the new owners Aquis Farm. She was a special lady who stole many hearts mine amongst them. We had a great bunch of owners who really enjoyed her even when she didn't win. She is sadly missed but will always have a special place in the stable and one of David's highlights of training”
