Making Magic on Racing's Golden Stage

Rosehill Gardens provided a cauldron for the current heavyweights of racing to do battle on a day boasting five group one races, but amidst the spectacle of Slippers and superstars Team Pfieffer's two courageous girls, Denmagic and Cradle Me, packed plenty of punch in the undercard events.

The pair ran upwards of expectations and trainer David Pfieffer was full of praise for his headline filly and mare.

"I was super impressed with them both" he said.

"I got so excited when Denmagic ran through that split, I got out of my chair and really started yelling!.”

The trainer was not the only one to notice the Denman filly's spectacular sprint for third, beaten just under a length by Southern Legend and Egyptian Symbol. Racenet form guru Paul Joice rated her as his "fastest sectional split" of the Sebring Sprint, praising her tenacity through the line.

"Denmagic produced a career best performance when a fast finishing third behind Southern Legend (34.50/11.48). David Pfieffer’s filly had the smother back in the ruck before angling clear and attacking the line. A winner up to 1550m, she can be well placed in coming weeks" wrote Joice on popular punting bible Racenet.

Jockey Christian Reith saw plenty of positives in the effort and thought so highly of Denmagic’s finishing burst believed with a little more luck in the straight the stable could have stolen the show with their $51 chance.

“She ran really well today, didn’t get the run when we needed but she ran really well” described Reith.

Denmagic was untested in a 900m trial at Rosehill Gardens on Monday where she finished a hard held fifth for Tommy Berry, but was unwanted in betting and was paying as much as $61 on course for the win.

Denmagic, by Lonhro’s Golden Rose winning son Denman, is the second foal to race from the Viscount mare Magic Zefta. Magic Zefta has a 2yo filly by Smart Missile named Club Tropicana and a yearling colt by ill-fated sire Commands who is sure to be well sought after. She was bred to freshman sire Rubick this season.

Pfieffer’s magic filly was joined by barnmate Cradle Me on Joice’s sectional star watchlist.

Cradle Me makes good ground late to grab fourth in the G3 Birthday Card Stakes

“Cradle Me always clocks fast closing times and once again flew home her final 200m (10.99) in an eye-catching effort” wrote Joice.

Cradle Me is already a dual stakes winner, tasting success in the Razor Sharp Quality and Canterbury Classic over the 1200m at Randwick in December last year.
